The all-new Civic sedan is about to start winning all sorts of comparison tests. From the outside, it looks fresh from about any angle. The interior plays for the same contemporary school as the exterior, and uses space smartly. The rear seats are surprisingly roomy, though you’ll give up some baby-seat convenience due to the Honda’s compact-car dimensions. For the sake of driving, we’d recommend spending the $23,000 it’ll take to own a Civic EX-T. That model features a 174-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). While the 2.0-liter four in less expensive Civics is a perfectly serviceable powerplant, there is an elegance to the way the 1.5 works with Honda’s superb CVT adding ease and “aaah” back into acceleration and passing in the small car. You get full EPA fuel-economy bragging rights with the more powerful 1.5-liter 4-cylinder as well: 31 mpg city/42 mpg highway.
