Speaking of the V-6

Speaking of the V-6, the new VR-series 3.0-liter twin-turbo engines match the power figures posted in their Q50 application. The hotter version makes 400 horsepower at 6400 rpm, while featuring a flat torque curve—its 350 lb-ft are available from 1600 to 5200 rpm. Opt for the less-potent mill and you’re looking at 300 horses arriving at the same 6400 rpm and 295 lb-ft available across the same rev spread as the higher-output engine’s. Infiniti estimates 22 mpg combined for the 400-hp engine and 23 mpg for the less-potent version. The Daimler-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder offers 208 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1500. For taking the power hit, you’ll be rewarded with 1-mpg greater fuel efficiency over the 300-hp V-6.
Whichever engine you choose, power is routed through a seven-speed automatic transmission. Infiniti’s Adaptive Shift Control uses a lateral accelerometer to detect topographic changes and adjusts its shifts accordingly. All-wheel-drive models can route as much as 50 percent of their power to the front wheels when conditions demand, while the default mode feeds 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels.
Infiniti caught a fair measure of grief over the original incarnation of its Direct Adaptive Steering, but Nissan’s luxury unit claims things will be different this time around, noting that the setup “has undergone significant re-tuning to enhance steering feel and feedback.” The steering system features six settings: Customize, Standard, Snow, Eco, Sport, and, in zestier models, Sport+. We’d be happy with a single good optionlet’s hope there’s one in the bunch. Four-cylinder cars make do with a speed-sensitive electrohydraulic system.
The base suspension has steel springs, while Infiniti’s Dynamic Digital Suspension is standard on the Sport-trim Q60 models. The adjustable dampers feature Standard, Sport, and Sport+ modes, which drivers can choose depending on the task at hand or their general feelings of aggression. Handling said aggression or lack thereof are a variety of wheel fitments in 19- and 20-inch sizes, with sportier models featuring staggered sizes for a more properly muscular comportment.
